Sant Francesc
Sant Francesc Xavier is the capital and the main town of Formentera. Here is the headquarters of the Consell Insular (town hall) and the main services of the island.
In Sant Francesc, the parish church stands out, which was built as a defensive fortress and religious temple due to the memory of piracy. Its austere appearance includes a door covered with iron plates. The church, finished in 1738, is located in front of the Island Council. There is also the small Chapel of sa Tanca Vella, with a barrel vault, dating from the 13th or 14th century.
In the square and in the eastern part of sa Raval, you can visit the Fossar Vell, a cemetery restored by the Formentera architect Marià Castelló, a finalist in the FAD architecture awards in 2017. In the service area, accessible from Avenida Portossalè, are the cinema, the swimming pool and the Es Molí Social Centre.
