Sant Ferran
Sant Ferran is an inland village in the centre of the island of Formentera. Its strategic location connects the roads to Sant Francesc, Es Pujols and Pilar de la Mola. Bounded by the main Formentera road to the south, it has a charming historic centre with a church, a square and recently renovated pedestrian streets.
During the 1970s, Sant Ferran became a meeting point for hippies and bohemians at the legendary Fonda Pepe, which is still open today. The free, creative and festive character of the place is maintained in the craft and art markets that are held during the summer evenings, except on Wednesdays and Sundays.
Places of interest include the church of Sant Ferran de Ses Roques and its surroundings. Although it was initially planned to build the church in the Salinas, the conditions were not suitable and the site of Ses Roques was chosen. The church, inaugurated in 1889, is the smallest of the three parish churches and was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1996. Near Sant Ferran, you can visit the Punta Prima defence tower, the Cala en Baster jetties and the marés stone cliffs, as well as two old windmills, the Molí d'en Teuet and the Molí de ses Roques, and the megalithic tomb of Ca na Costa.
